The diocese of Buta ( Latin Dioecesis Butana , French Diocèse de Buta ) is in the Democratic Republic of Congo situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Buta .
history
The diocese of Buta was founded in 1898 by Pope Leo XIII. established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Léopoldville as the Apostolic Prefecture of Uélé . The Apostolic Prefecture of Uélé gave up on December 18, 1911 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of East Uélé . On December 18, 1911, the Apostolic Prefecture of Uélé was renamed the Apostolic Prefecture of West Uélé . The Apostolic Prefecture of West Uélé was founded on April 25, 1924 by Pope Pius XI. with the Apostolic Constitution Ut in praefectura raised to the Apostolic Vicariate . On March 10, 1926, the Vicariate Apostolic West-Uélé gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Bondo . The Apostolic Vicariate West-Uélé was renamed on March 10, 1926 in Apostolic Vicariate Buta . On February 22, 1937, the Vicariate Apostolic Buta gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture Lolo .
The Apostolic Vicariate Buta was on November 10, 1959 by Pope John XXIII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Kisangani as a suffragan .
