The diocese of Darjeeling ( lat. : Dioecesis Darieelingensis ) is in Bhutan and India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Darjeeling .

history

The Diocese of Darjeeling was founded on February 15, 1929 by Pope Pius XI. Established with the Apostolic Constitution In longinquis from cessions of territory by the Archdiocese of Calcutta and the Apostolic Vicariate Tatsienlu as a Mission sui juris Sikkim . On June 16, 1931 the Mission sui juris Sikkim was by Pius XI. raised with the Apostolic Constitution Litteris Apostolicis to the Apostolic Prefecture . The Apostolic Prefecture of Sikkim was founded on August 8, 1962 by Pope John XXIII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Quem ad modum and renamed the Diocese of Darjeeling . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Calcutta as a suffragan . On June 14, 1997, the Diocese of Darjeeling gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Bagdogra .
