history
The Diocese of Keimoes-Upington was on June 20, 1885 by Pope Leo XIII. established from cessions of the Apostolic Prefecture Cape of Good Hope as the Apostolic Prefecture Orange River . On May 2, 1898, the Apostolic Prefecture Orange River was by Leo XIII. raised to the apostolic vicariate . The Apostolic Vicariate Orange River gave on July 7, 1909 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Greater Namaqualand . On July 9, 1940, the Apostolic Vicariate Orange River was renamed Apostolic Vicariate Keimoes .
The Apostolic Vicariate Keimoes was on January 11, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bloemfontein as a suffragan . The Diocese of Keimoes was renamed the Diocese of Keimoes-Upington on February 8, 1985 .
