The Diocese of Oita ( lat. : Dioecesis Oitaensis , Jap. カトリック大分教区 , katorikku Oita Kyoku ) is in Japan situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Oita .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the Mission sui juris Miyazaki with the Breve Supremi apostolatus on March 27, 1927 from cession of territory by the diocese of Fukuoka . With the Apostolic Constitution Ad potioris dignitatis it was raised to the diocese on January 28, 1935.
According to the Bull Quae Universo , it moved the bishopric from Miyazaki to Oita on December 22, 1961 and took its current name.
The Oita diocese includes the prefectures Ōita and Miyazaki on the island of Kyushu . In 2011 the diocese had an area of 14,071 km² and a population of 2,376,414, including 6,288 Catholics. There were 26 parishes, 50 priests (14 world and 36 religious), 228 sisters and 4 major seminarians.
