The diocese Pinheiro ( Latin Dioecesis Pinerensis , Portuguese Diocese de Pinheiro ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Pinheiro in the state of Maranhão .

history

The Diocese of Pinheiro was on July 22, 1939 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Ad maius Christifidelium from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão and the Territorial Prelature of São José do Grajaú as the Territorial Prelature of Pinheiro . The Territorial Prelature Pinheiro was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão as a suffragan . The Territorial Prelature Pinheiro gave on October 16, 1961 parts of its territory to establish the Territorial Prelature Cândido Mendes .

On October 16, 1979, the territorial prelature of Pinheiro was raised to the diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Cum praelaturae .
