The Diocese of São Gabriel da Cachoeira ( Latin Dioecesis Cachoëirensis , Portuguese Diocese de São Gabriel da Cachoeira ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in São Gabriel da Cachoeira in the state of Amazonas .
history
Pope Pius X founded the Apostolic Prefecture of Rio Negro on October 19, 1910. In 1914 the Apostolic Prefecture was entrusted to the Salesians of Don Bosco.
With the Apostolic Constitution Christianae religionis it was raised on May 1, 1925 to the territorial prelature , which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as a suffragan . On February 16, 1952, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Manaus . She was elevated to a diocese on August 14, 1991. It took its current name on October 21, 1981.
