The Diocese of São João del-Rei ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Ioannis a Rege ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in São João del Rei in the state of Minas Gerais .

history

The diocese of São João del-Rei was on May 21, 1960 by Pope John XXIII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Quandoquidem novae from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Mariana and the Diocese of Campanha . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mariana as a suffragan . On April 14, 1962, the diocese of São João del-Rei was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Juiz de Fora as a suffragan.
