Björn Nilsson (born April 9, 1960 in Malmö ) is a former Swedish football player . The offensive player - initially often played as a striker and later as an attacking midfielder - won the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish championship and the national cup with Malmö FF , as well as the Swiss Cup with BSC Young Boys . Between 1982 and 1987 he played 16 international matches for the Swedish national team , scoring one goal.

Career

Nilsson, who came to the club at the age of ten, made his debut in 1979 for Malmö FF shortly after the 1978/79 European Cup final , which the Swedish club lost to Nottingham Forest with a 1-0 defeat in the first team. Under coach Bob Houghton , he played seven league games by the end of the 1979 season. Under his successor Keith Blunt , he established himself in the regular formation from the 1981 season, subsequently he was appointed to the Swedish national team in early 1982 by national coach Lars Arnesson . On February 20, he made his debut as a substitute for Thomas Nilsson in the 2-2 draw against Finland in the national jersey.

As a result, Nilsson was a regular in both the club and national team. While the selection team missed the qualification for a tournament, he won the title in 1984 with the club under coach Tord Grip at the side of Jan Möller , Mats Magnusson , Hans Borg and Ingemar Erlandsson in the national cup against the second division Landskrona BoIS . Under Brain's successor Roy Hodgson he dominated the regular time with the club in the 1985 season, after two defeats against IFK Göteborg in the championship round , the championship title was missed. In the following season, with seven goals this season, he was the second-best club-internal scorer tied with Leif Engqvist and Anders Palmér behind Lasse Larsson, who returned nine times in twelve games, and was instrumental in winning the first place again in regular time. This time the team won the championship title in the finals against AIK , although Nilsson missed the decisive games due to contract negotiations with the Swiss club BSC Young Boys from Bern.

After the triumph, Nilsson moved to the reigning champions in Switzerland, where he met a fellow countryman with Robert Prytz . While the club had slipped into the second half of the table in the championship, the team coached by Aleksander Mandziara won the Swiss with goals from Dario Zuffi , Prytz with a penalty , Reto Gertschen and Joachim Siwek with a 4-2 win after extra time against Servette FC Genève National cup. Until 1991 he played for the club in the National League A , then he went to the then Swiss third division club FC Monthey . In 1993 he returned to Sweden, where he played for the then second division Landskrona BoIS. With the club he rose to the Allsvenskan at the end of the season, but due to an injury he had to end his active career in the course of the 1994 season.
