Anders Palmér (born April 24, 1960 ) is a Swedish former football player . The midfielder , who played twelve international matches for the Swedish national team between 1983 and 1987 , won the Swedish championship and the national cup twice with Malmö FF .

Career

The son of long-time Italian professional Karl-Erik Palmér began playing football at Malmö FF , where his father had started his career, at the age of ten , and subsequently went through the individual youth teams of the club. In the 1980 season he moved up to the squad of the men's team competing in the Allsvenskan . Although initially mainly supplementary player, he moved in the winter break of 1981/82 on loan to the North American NASL for the Canadian club Vancouver Whitecaps .

After his return to Malmö FF in early 1982, Palmér established himself under coach Keith Blunt at the side of Roland Andersson , Björn Nilsson , Roy Andersson and Thomas Sjöberg in the regular formation and was also one of the regular players for long periods under his successor Tord Grip . In 1983 he also advanced to the national team, under national coach Lars Arnesson he made his debut in November in a 5-0 win against the national team from Trinidad and Tobago . A year later he won the first title with the club. In the 1-0 final victory in the cup final against second division Landskrona BoIS , he was substituted on for Mats Arvidsson in the 65th minute of the game . Despite the title, the club took profits before the season in 1985 with Roy Hodgson a new coach. Under his leadership, the club dominated the league, which he finished five times in a row as leaders. However , the team was only successful in the championship play-offs in the 1986 and 1988 seasons and won the championship title in Skåne . In 1986 the team also won the double , in the 2-1 win over IFK Göteborg in the cup final, Palmér scored the goal for the final score. Towards the end of the 1980s, however, he increasingly moved into the second tier. In particular, Joakim Nilsson , Stefan Schwarz and Jonas Thern pushed him out of his traditional position in midfield. Hodgson therefore suggested a club change and when he won the Cup in 1989 - Djurgårdens IF was defeated 3-0 in the final - he was therefore not on the field.

Palmér moved in early 1990 to regional rivals Trelleborgs FF in the second division. With the team he reached under coach Tom Prahl in the autumn series, the Kvalsvenskan of the first division season 1991 and rose as second in the table in the Allsvenskan. In the following spring series he surprised at the side of Mats Lilienberg , Leif Engqvist , Jan Möller and Patrik Larsson as third in the table, with a fourth place in the autumn championship, the club narrowly missed the European Cup. In the following two seasons, he did not miss a game before he let his career end from 1995 onwards.

In 2002 Palmér returned to Malmö FF as Tom Prahl's assistant coach , but left the club after two seasons. He moved again to Trelleborgs FF, where he worked alongside Lasse Larsson as Conny Karlsson's assistant. In 2006 he took over a position as a junior coach at Malmö FF and was coach of the amateur club MF Pelister . While he brought the youngsters to the Swedish championship in 2007 in collaboration with Tore Cervin , he led the amateur club with three promotions to the fifth division until 2009, before he announced the end of his engagement there in the fall of that year. In early 2011 he moved up again to assistant coach at Malmö FF, as Roland Nilsson's previous assistant Josep Clotet Ruiz had switched to Halmstads BK as head coach .
