Blaise Duval

Blaise Duval , called Duval de Hautmaret (born September 4, 1739 in Abbeville , † January 17, 1803 in Neuville near Montreuil-sur-Mer ) was a French general de division of the cavalry .

Live and act

As a volunteer, Duval joined the Garde du corps du roi on February 20, 1758 . He took part in the “Régiment des dragons aux volontaires de Soubise” in the Seven Years' War and was able to distinguish himself several times through courage and bravery. On March 26, 1762 he was promoted to Sous-lieutenant and on July 1, 1766 to Capitaine . He served in Corsica from 1767 to 1768 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 3, 1774 . In 1776 his unit was dissolved. He was first transferred to infantry and then in 1779 to the 5 e régiment de dragons .

In September 1786 he was employed as lieutenant du roi (deputy to the king) in the citadel of Montreuil until this post was abolished on August 1, 1791. As a Lieutenent-colonel he was in 1791 in command of the "1er battalion de la Somme" and on March 23, 1792 as a colonel in command of the 6 e régiment de dragons .

On September 7, 1792 he was promoted to Général de brigade and was on November 26 in Pont-sur-Sambree one of the commanders in the division of General Francisco de Miranda in the "Armée du Nord" (Northern Army).

On February 3, 1793 he was promoted to | Général de division and took over command of the provinces of Brabant and Hainaut on February 20, 1791 .

In March 1793 he was deployed as commander of the citadel of Lille and commanded from here on May 14 the permanent places Arras , Bapaume , Doullens and Saint-Pol . On May 1, 1797 he became commandant of Béthune .

He was appointed by those in charge of the Pas-de-Calais department to command a mobile reaction force that was to be called up in the event of a British invasion of the coast of Montreuil.

On December 5, 1797 it was put up for disposal . Reactivated on October 18, 1800, he took command of the "8 e demi-brigade de vétérans" (8th Veterans Half-Brigade).

Between 1800 and 1803 he was a member of the Conseil général des Départements Pas-de-Calais .

He was married to Marie-Joseph Festamel, with whom he had two sons and three daughters.

Blaise Duval died on January 17, 1803 in Neuville and found his final resting place on the Cimetière vieux (carré militaire) of Montreuil-sur-Mer.
