Blue Lines is the debut album by the English trip-hop band Massive Attack . It was released on April 9, 1991 on the Virgin Records label . In the UK , Blue Lines quickly became a huge commercial success, reaching number 13 on the album charts . In other countries, however, sales were initially rather low. In the meantime, however , Blue Lines is considered to be one of the most innovative albums in pop history and the founder of the so-called Bristol Sound and thus the first trip-hop album ever. Stylistically, it mixed elements from hip-hop , electronica , soul and reggae and thus created a sound that was unique at the time. The album was also received positively. So landed Blue Lines in 2003, for example on the list of the 500 best albums of all time of Rolling Stone ranked 395th

Three singles were released from the album. Daydreaming was released on October 15, 1990, but it did not reach the UK Top 40 . The second single Unfinished Sympathy , released on February 11, 1991, reached number 13. Safe from Harm was released on May 28 that year and rose to number 25 in the UK.
