Grant W. Marshall (born June 9, 1973 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 790 games for the Dallas Stars , Columbus Blue Jackets and New Jersey Devils in the National between 1990 and 2008 Hockey League on the position of defender . Marshall won the Stanley Cup twice in his eleven seasons in the NHL - in 1999 with the Dallas Stars and in 2003 with the New Jersey Devils.
Career
Grant Marshall began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League , where he played for the Ottawa 67’s and Newmarket Royals from 1990 to 1993 . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1992 in the first round as a total of 23 players by the Toronto Maple Leafs , for which he however never played. Instead, he spent the 1993/94 season in their farm team in the American Hockey League , the St. John's Maple Leafs before it on August 10, 1994 under Peter Zezel as compensation for the previous commitment of Toronto's Mike Craig as a free agent , to the Dallas Stars handed in. For the stars, the attacker made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1994/95 season , but mainly ran for their farm team from the International Hockey League , the Kalamazoo Wings .
With the Dallas Stars, Marshall won the prestigious Stanley Cup for the first time in the 1998/99 season . In the following season he failed with his team in the final at the New Jersey Devils . In exchange for a second-round vote, he was given on August 29, 2001 to the Columbus Blue Jackets founded a year earlier , for which he was on the ice for the following two years. Shortly before the end of the trade deadline in the 2002/03 season, the Canadian was transferred to the New Jersey Devils, with whom he then won the Stanley Cup in the playoffs for the second time in his career, with the right-shooter in 24 playoff appearances Scorer points, including six goals, scored. During the lockout in the 2004/05 season, Marshall paused ice hockey, but returned to New Jersey after resumption of play for the 2005/06 season. From 2006 to 2008 he played for New Jersey's AHL farm team, the Lowell Devils , with whom he retired.
