action

First season

The Waldemar family run an inn on Åland , but Lasse, the older son of Anna-Lisa and the missing Mauritz Waldemar, and his sister Jonna have moved out for several years - since their late youth and early adolescence - and live in Stockholm. Oskar lives with his wife Liv and their daughter Cecilia in the inn he runs. Liv is Lasse's childhood sweetheart. Lasse and Jonna receive postcards from their mother inviting their children to a meeting at their parents' house. You have something important to say. Jonna is a successful theater actress and lives with the director Manne Wahlstrom. Playing in the theater was her childhood dream. Her mother also used to play in the theater before she settled in the inn. Her husband was violent towards her and the children, which is why Lasse ultimately moved out.

After the arrival of Lasse, his daughter Kim and Jonna, old conflicts flare up and new ones ignite. Anna-Lisa asks each child individually for a conversation in the course of the plot. Lasse, the eldest of the three, instructs them to “take care of the others”. Oskar tells her it is “time to forgive” and Jonna assures her that “Jonna is not Anna-Lisa”. The next day, Anna-Lisa committed suicide by rowing a boat on the Baltic Sea and shooting herself there. When the will is opened , her children find out that the Waldemar inn has not belonged to their mother for three years. She gave it to her lawyer and notary Beatrice Norling. She was contractually obliged to give the inn to a local association to promote sailing boat trips, if Lasse, Oskar and Jonna do not manage the house together until the end of the season and make a profit and none of the three stay on the island of Åland than 24 hours leaves.

In the subplot, an incident develops around the disappearance of Mauritz and Gunnar, the husband of the neighbor Mildred Pahkinen. Mauritz had a quarrel with Gunnar and killed him while intoxicated on a boat trip. Jonna has observed this, but only tells Mildred about it when Mildred considers selling her house to Mikael Rosén. Mikael is wealthy and had already shown interest in the Waldemar inn. By revealing her observation, Jonna can prevent Mildred from selling.

Second season

To prepare the traditional Christmas buffets in Waldemar's guest house, Lasse, who is involved in dubious business transactions, and Jonna, who has fallen out of favor with the film producer, arrive there and meet a depressed Oscar. In a stormy night havariert money courier for Lasse. But a man can go ashore unseen. Lasse takes the sizeable amount of money and sets the boat on fire to cover up tracks. Lasse is putting the money into renovating the storm damage to the guest house. Thanks to Jonna's ideas and, later, Liv's support, the Christmas event is a great success.

Two corpse finds increase the problems of the Waldemar siblings: Konrad uncovered the remains of his brother Mauritz while ice fishing and threatened the Waldemars with consequences, while the water police found the drowned money courier. Lasse buys Konrad's silence with - counterfeit money . Oskar recognizes the connections with the money courier. On the ice there is a scuffle between Konrad and the unsuccessful mediator Jonna, in which Konrad falls into the ice-cold water after a gunshot. The Waldemar siblings do nothing to save him and then burn the remains of their father Mauritz together with documents and notes at night.

Liv, dissatisfied in their marriage, has set out on an unknown time and with an unknown destination. During this time Oskar tied up with the unmarried pastor Petra, who had hopes for a lasting relationship. When Liv unexpectedly returns, she encounters a tense atmosphere in which everyone has something to hide and Lasse in turn cheats and lies to both women. Kim finds a young man with a gunshot wound, the Estonian Andrus, in the Pahkinens' house and secretly takes care of him. Let the hell out of it to bring the counterfeit money into circulation. When the police discover that there are counterfeit money in circulation, he drives to Helsinki with the craftsman Wille Ek, who is helping them repair the house, to exchange the counterfeit money for real currency. The buyers of the money want to get away with the counterfeit money without paying. However, Wille succeeds in using his firearm to drive away the dealers and to take the money. Lasse can finally settle the liabilities. Oskar picks up daughter Cecilia from the ferry, because she was in drama school until just before Christmas. He tries to keep up appearances towards her, and hopes for a reconciliation with Liv.

The three siblings Lasse, Oskar and Jonna worry about the future of Waldemar's guest house, while Liv Lasse confronts his fatherhood. As is his way, he reacts indignantly at first, only to apologize for it later. The naive Kim not only gives Andrus fresh clothes, but also a weapon that she found with her father. Andrus immediately realizes that it is his weapon from the ship, takes it and demands the money back from Lasse. However, upon delivery, he is overwhelmed and disappears with an apology. Meanwhile, Jonna is the only one who is running smoothly, as she not only receives an acceptance from the new film producer, but also a lovely invitation from Wille. On Christmas Eve in a family circle, heavily drunk Oskar takes the floor, pelts Liv and Lasse with dirt and even falls out with his beloved Cecilia. The appearance of the police officer Laura Nord on the same evening with evidence of Konrad's death makes the tragedy perfect. With a heavy heart everyone leaves the guest house, which would now pass to Mikael Rosén, if Oskar didn't let it go up in flames ...
