Bo Derek (* 20th November 1956 as Mary Cathleen Collins in Long Beach , California ) is an American actress . It was considered a sex symbol in the 1980s .

Personal

Derek was born one of four children to boat dealer Paul Collins and his wife Norma. She is the future stepdaughter of the stuntman Bobby Bass . In 1974 Bo Derek graduated from Nathaniel Narbonne High School in Harbor City . From 1974 until his death in 1998 she was married to the American actor and director John Derek . Bo Derek now lives with actor John Corbett .

Career

Derek became known to a wide audience through the lead role in the 1979 film Ten - The Dream Woman , for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Young Actress . In this comedy, which became a box-office hit with grossing around $ 75 million, she seduces a musical composer (played by Dudley Moore ) to the sounds of Maurice Ravel's Boléro.

Although she became a world-famous sex symbol through Ten - The Dream Woman , Derek could not live off this success for a long time. In the 1980s she played under the direction of her husband John Derek in a permissive manner leading roles in films such as Tarzan - Herr des Urwalds (1981) or Ecstase (1984; US title Bolero) , which were panned by criticism and with audiences forever aroused less interest. More profiled film roles did not materialize.

For her portrayals, Derek received multiple nominations for the Golden Raspberry as worst actress. She also received this award in the category Worst Actress of the 1980s . From the 1990s she was almost only seen in TV productions.
