Location and surroundings

The late stream separates the Bocksberg in the north from the Staufen . The Schaufel Gorge and the Ebniter Valley connect to the east and south . On the west side, the Bocksberg is connected to the beautiful man via the Hinterbergsattel .

geology

The Bocksberg is part of the Säntis ceiling of the Helvetic ceiling system , which extends beneath the Rhine plain into the Eastern Alps. The distinctive rock breaks are due to the typical Helvetic alternation between hard and soft rock. The rock walls consist of hard Schrattenkalk .

Landscape and nature conservation

Around the jagged, mostly wooded head lies a belt of crags and small flutes. The Bocksbergalpe lies on the eastern flank, while the Hackwald , an extensively used pasture and an impressive, elongated and richly structured rock face can be found on the south side .

A rock face in the south of the Bocksberg including the calcareous debris at its foot are registered in the Vorarlberg biotope inventory under number 30139 .

Development, use and tourism

The easiest way to the summit leads from Ebnit over the Hackwald and the Bocksbergalpe. Another, more difficult path to walk leads from the Emser Hütte or Schuttannen over the west ridge and is equipped with ladders. This makes it possible for experienced mountain hikers who do not suffer from vertigo.
