Boiler Room was an American alternative and nu-metal band from New York City , New York that was formed in 1993 and broke up in 2001.
history
The band was formed in 1993 and consisted of singer Chris Lino, guitarist Joey Barracato and brothers Mike (drums) and James Meselsohn (bass), with members from Brooklyn and the Bronx . After a few demos , a debut album called Low Society was recorded in 1996 and broadcast to various radio stations. After the recordings, guitarist Barracto left the line-up and was replaced by Rob Caggiano. In 1999, K-Rock sponsored an appearance with Orgy . In the same year the band signed a recording deal with Roadrunner Records . For the summer of 2000, the release of the album Can't Breathe was planned, but the release was delayed too much, whereupon the band switched to Tommy Boy Records , which finally released the album in November. The sound carrier had been produced by John Travis and mixed by Phil Nicolo . The song Do It Again , with 4 × 4 as the B-side, was released as a single. After appearances with Kittie and Spineshank , Can't Breathe was released in the UK in March 2001 before Boiler Room broke up in April. In their career the band played with Type O Negative , Life of Agony , Biohazard , Overkill , Static-X , Clutch and King's X, among others .

laut.de and rockdetector.com assigned the band to Nu Metal. Christian Graf wrote in his Nu Metal and Crossover Lexicon that the band was only identified as a pioneer of the genre when younger bands had overtaken them. The specialist mediacomparedthe bandto the Deftones when they heard Can't Breathe , although the music was very groove- oriented. Joel McIver wrote in his book The Next Generation of Rock & Punk Nu-Metal that the band hardcore punk with heavy metal - riffs combined. Steve Huey from Allmusic called the music alternative metal. Henning Richter from Metal Hammer called the music Nu Metal, which focuses on groove and melody. In an interview with him, Chris Lino named Stevie Wonder , Aretha Franklin , Phil Anselmo , Scott Weiland and Chino Moreno as influences. In the same issue, Thorsten Zahn reviewed the album Can't Breathe , which sounds like one from 1990. The song structures are based on bands like Faith No More , Mordred , Living Color , Leeway and Fishbone . He called the music a crossover .
