The Bolivian-Portuguese relations describe the intergovernmental relationship between Bolivia and Portugal . The countries maintain friendly relations.

After some contacts in the 16th and 17th centuries, today's points of contact are the joint work in the Ibero-America summit and the slowly but steadily increasing bilateral trade.

A social security agreement has existed between Bolivia and Portugal since the Ibero-American social security convention of November 10, 2007 (Portuguese: Convenção Multilateral Ibero-Americana de Segurança Social de 10 de novembro de 2007 ), followed by a first restricted agreement on mutual visa exemption in 2010 .

In 2001 there were 40 Portuguese citizens registered in Bolivia, and 109 Bolivian citizens were registered in Portugal in 2015.

history

The Portuguese were also attracted by the silver wealth in Potosí . The Portuguese António da Costa lived here from 1579 to 1657 . In his native language, he wrote the Historia de Potosí . Orsúa y Vela considered Costa a trained historian and used parts of the Historia in his Historia de la Villa Imperial de Potosí . Orsúa y Vela always assumed that Costa's book had been published in Portugal, but no evidence has been found to date, and Lewis Hanke's efforts were also unsuccessful.

In the city of Potosí, one of the main roads in the 16th century was called Luzitana .

In 1825 Bolivia gained independence from Spain. On May 10, 1879, Bolivia and Portugal signed their first trade, shipping and mining agreement in the Bolivian capital La Paz .

In 1969 Portugal set up its own embassy in Bolivia.

In July 2013 there was a temporary diplomatic conflict when Portugal also refused to allow the plane of Bolivian President Evo Morales to stop for fuel, according to a tip from the French government. This happened at the request of the United States , which suspected Morales of having Edward Snowden on board on his return flight from Moscow , and at the request of some states refused to allow the Bolivian President's plane to fly over and refuel. Bolivia protested against the countries involved, which had endangered the life of its president and violated international customs.

The project included the establishment of a production site in Bolivia and the delivery of initially 125,000 devices to the Bolivian education program from the end of 2014.
