Borek ( German Borkau ) is a village in the Polish Voivodeship of Lower Silesia , which belongs to the rural community Głogów (Glogau) in the powiat Głogowski (Glogau district) .

Geographical location

The place is about three kilometers east of Głogów (Glogau) . Surrounding towns are Wojszyn (Woischau) in the north, Białołęka (Weißholz) in the east, Przedmoście (Priedemost) in the south, Bytnik (Beuthnig) in the southeast, the district of Głogów belonging to Krzepów in the west and Zabornia (Sabor) in the northwest.

The Droga wojewódzka 330 runs through Borek from Głogów (Glogau) to Luboszyce (Herrnlauersitz) .

Borek was first mentioned as a document in 1298. The place belonged to Countess Constantine von Kayserling in 1766 . The village then passed into the possession of the then royal adviser and, after his death in 1826, to the Prussian ambassador August von Liebermann . In 1850 the place was bought by the von Lehfeldt family, who owned the village until the end of the Second World War .

Borek came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1742 after the First Silesian War . There the place was from 1816 to 1945 in the district of Glogau in the administrative district of Liegnitz .

There is a castle in Borek , which was built between the 17th and 18th centuries at the turn of the century . In 1880 the castle was rebuilt in the eclectic style. There has also been a castle park with a fountain since the beginning of the 19th century .

The German name of the place is Borkau . Until 1945, the place together with the neighboring town of Sabor formed the municipality of Borkau-Sabor . After the border was drawn in the period after the Second World War , the place came under the name of Borek to the Republic of Poland . Between 1975 and 1998 the place belonged to the Legnica Voivodeship , after its dissolution as a result of a territorial reform, the place came to the Lower Silesian Voivodeship . In 1999, Borek became part of the Głogów rural community in the Głogowski powiat . The mayor of Borek is Mariola Serdeń, and Jarosław Gniewosz represents the town in the Gmina Głogów municipal council.
