He started his career as an entrepreneur, and even before the Velvet Revolution in 1989, he was running a computer business in his own words. In the 1990s he founded the joint stock company 1. Tatranská , which mainly dealt with the operation of ski hotels and ski lifts, as in Donovaly , Liptovské Revúce and Vysoké Tatry . Political career
Kollár entered politics in 2010 with the Únia - strana pre Slovensko party (German Union - Party for Slovakia), which, however, clearly failed to make it into parliament in the 2010 election with 0.7%.
With the takeover of the party Strana občanov Slovenska (German Party of the Citizens of Slovakia) and its renaming in Sme rodina - Boris Kollár in 2015 he tried to make a political career for the second time and won 11 seats in the 2016 election as the sixth strongest party National Council, which then went into opposition.
In the 2020 election , the party landed in third place with 8.2% of the vote and 17 seats and Kollár himself was elected President of Parliament on March 20, 2020 to succeed Andrej Danko . In June 2020 Kollár was confronted with allegations of plagiarism regarding his diploma thesis and insisted that he had "lazed around", but insisted on the legality of the master's degree and that he did not have to apologize for anything. He survived the vote of no confidence he initiated on July 7, 2020 with only five votes in favor of his dismissal, with the smaller governing parties Sloboda a Solidarita and Za ľudí leaving the room shortly beforehand after both of them called for Kollár to resign voluntarily.
