Boštjan Kline (born March 9, 1991 in Maribor ) is a Slovenian ski racer . He specializes in the downhill and Super-G disciplines. He has won a world cup race so far and two junior world championship titles in 2011.

Career

As a 15-year-old, Kline took part in FIS races from December 2006 , appearances in the European Cup followed from January 2008. Specialization in the fast disciplines began early on. He first reached the points in the European Cup in February 2009. He made his debut in the World Cup on December 12, 2009 in the super combined of Val-d'Isère , where he was eliminated in the slalom race. Twelve days later he was able to win an FIS race for the first time. Shortly after he finished in the top ten for the first time in the European Cup, he won the bronze medal in the downhill at the 2010 Junior World Championship in Megève . Further appearances in the World Cup produced rather mediocre results.

At the Junior World Championships 2011 in Crans-Montana , Kline won the gold medal in both downhill and super-G. He qualified for the World Cup final in Lenzerheide . On March 16, 2011, he drove there in the downhill, in his seventh World Cup race, in 15th place and won World Cup points for the first time. In the 2011/12 season Kline was only able to classify himself in the World Cup points once, in the 2012/13 season four times. In each case he did not get over a 25th place. During a downhill run for the South American Cup on September 3, 2013 in La Parva, Chile, he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and had to sit out the following season.

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season , Kline was among the top 15 for the first time. On January 30, 2016, he was second for the first time on a World Cup podium at the downhill run in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At the Super-G in Hinterstoder on February 27th, he was also able to achieve second place; in both cases he only had to admit defeat to Aleksander Aamodt Kilde . Kline's performances in the 2016/17 season were initially inconsistent; in addition to top 10 placements, he also had several failures. At the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz , he achieved his best ever World Cup result with 7th place in the downhill. Shortly afterwards, on February 24, 2017, he celebrated his first World Cup victory on the downhill from Kvitfjell . This made him the second Slovenian runner, after Andrej Jerman , to win a World Cup run.

In the next World Cup season 2017/18 Kline did not get past 13th place. His best result of the season was 10th place in the Super-G at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .
