Brandan Meibom

Brandan Meibom (born January 14, 1678 in Helmstedt ; † October 16, 1740 ibid) was a German botanist and professor of pathology , semiotics and botany . He was also director of the botanical garden in Helmstedt .

Life

He came from the old Lower Saxon family Meibom . His father was Heinrich Meibom and his brother Hermann Dietrich Meibom . He enrolled in Helmstedt for the first time on September 20, 1695 and went to Leiden that same year . In 1699 he returned to Helmstedt for a short stay and then went back to Holland . He received his doctorate in medicine in Utrecht in 1701 for his dissertation : De externorum medicamentorum operatione et in morbis internis usu . He then went to England for some time and, on his return to Helmstedt in 1707, received the professorship for pathology and semiotics at the now defunct University of Helmstedt . In 1717 he also became a professor of botany. In the first semester of the same year as well as in the respective first semesters of 1721, 1725, 1731 and 1735 he was Vice-Rector of the University. He is considered a supporter of the so-called Sydenham 's direction. Later he was still Hanoverian court advisor and personal physician to the Duke of Wolfenbüttel .
