Grigorios Larentzakis ( Greek Γρηγόριος Λαρεντζάκης , * 1942 in Chania , Crete ) is an Orthodox theologian .

Life

Grigorios Larentzakis grew up in his birthplace, where he attended elementary school and the church high school. From 1961 to 1965 he studied at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople Opel Theology in Halki and ended the study with the Diploma and Master of Orthodox Theology from.

With a scholarship he then studied Catholic theology in Austria , first from 1965 to 1966 in Salzburg , later in Innsbruck . In 1969 he was the first non-Catholic theologian to receive his doctorate in Catholic theology at a Catholic faculty in Austria, the University of Innsbruck .

Larentzakis is married to Rosa Margund Larentzakis, née Vogl, and has two children.

Scientific career

After his studies in Innsbruck , Larentzakis worked from 1970 at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Graz , where he teaches Orthodox and ecumenical theology. As an Orthodox theologian, he is a member of a Catholic faculty.

From 1970 to 1975 Larentzakis held a teaching position for Orthodox theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . In 1982 he received his habilitation at the University of Graz, in 1983 he received his doctorate in orthodox theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in 1987 he was appointed university professor in Graz .

Larentzakis was also a substitute for a professorship, u. a. for dogmatics and ecumenical theology at the Catholic-Theological Private University Linz (1983–1984). He also gave several block lectures and seminars at the Ecumenical Institute of the World Council of Churches in Bossey .

In 1990, a separate department for Eastern Church Orthodoxy (since 2001: “Section for Orthodox Theology”) was set up at the Theological Faculty of the University of Graz and Larentzakis was appointed its head. From 1995 to 1997 he also took on the agendas of the board of directors of the Institute for Ecumenical Theology and Patrology . From 1997 he was the deputy director of this institute, which in 1999 was renamed the Institute for Ecumenical Theology, Eastern Church Orthodoxy and Patrology . In 2007 he retired.

In his academic work Grigorios Larentzakis was also consulted as a supervisor and reviewer for doctoral theses in other theological faculties (e.g. Thessaloniki, Innsbruck, Frankfurt, Vienna) and as an evaluator of the training facility for Orthodox theology at the University of Munich .

Larentzakis is co-editor of the “Graz Theological Studies” and the “Ecumenical Forum” as well as the magazine “Ökumenische Rundschau” ( Germany ).

  • Pro Oriente Foundation ( Vienna ) for dialogue with the Eastern Churches (in the “Theological Advisory Board” and as a consultor). Deputy Chairman of the Pro Oriente Section Graz Foundation

  • Dialogue between the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the other autocephalous Orthodox Churches with the Group of the European People's Parties and the Group of European Democrats (since 1997).
