Margraviate Brandenburg-Küstrin
The margraviate of Brandenburg-Küstrin was a historical imperial principality that existed as a secondary school of the Hohenzollern from 1535 to 1571 .
history
In violation of the house law drawn up by his grandfather Albrecht Achilles , Elector Joachim I of Brandenburg determined that parts of the Neumark should fall to his second son Johann . His eldest son Joachim II succeeded him in the electorate .
The only prince of the margraviate of Brandenburg - Küstrin was from 1535 to 1571 Johann the Wise , also known as Hans von Küstrin. The margraviate became Evangelical-Lutheran in 1535 (before the rest of Brandenburg). In 1538 she became a member of the Schmalkaldic League . As a result of the prince uprising , the prince signed the Passau Treaty , with which Lutheranism was officially recognized by the emperor for the first time.
However, since Johann died in 1571 without a male heir, the country was reunited under Joachim I's grandson, Elector Johann Georg .
