Brandon Clarke (born September 19, 1996 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a Canadian - American basketball player .

career

The son of a Canadian mother and father from Jamaica , his family moved from Vancouver to Phoenix , Arizona , when he was three years old. At the age of seven he spent a few months in Vancouver again before growing up in Arizona again. He is a citizen of Canada and the United States.

Clarke played basketball as a student at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix and moved to San Jose State University in 2015 . For the university team there, he played 61 games until 2017 and achieved averages of 13 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per use.

During the summer break of 2017, he moved to Gonzaga University within the first NCAA division . Due to the transfer regulations, he had to suspend a game year before he played for Gonzaga in the 2018/19 season. Clarke, who was praised for his versatility and his strengths in defense, was behind the Japanese Rui Hachimura, the second best point collector of his team (16.9 points / game) and achieved two highs within the squad with 8.6 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per encounter . His 117 blocked opposing throws and his field throw hit rate of 68.7 percent were records in the entire first NCAA division of the 2018/19 season.

He ended his university career after the 2018/19 season and signed up for the NBA draft proceedings . There the Oklahoma City Thunder secured  the rights to Clarke in 21st place, but gave them to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a swap , from whom he was awarded a multi-year contract. In the 2019 NBA Summer League , Clarke was recognized as the best player and best game of the final. No one before him had received this double award.
