The viola head , consisting of the large viola head ( 2857 m above sea level ) and the small viola head ( 2686 m above sea level ), are two peaks in the Hochkönigstock in the Berchtesgaden Alps . They are located in the St. Johann im Pongau district in the Austrian state of Salzburg .
The Großer Bratschenkopf can be reached without a path from the north from the transition from the Arthurhaus to the Matrashaus (not difficult ). The Kleine Bratschenkopf, located to the east, can be climbed from the same route (difficulty level I).
Albert Precht's "Freier als Paul Preuß " climbing route leads through the south face of the Großer Bratschenkopf ( first ascent 1986 Free Solo , difficulty level VII, wall height 900 meters).
