Break - No Mercy, Just Pain! is a German horror film from 2009 . Directed led Matthias Olof Eich .
action
Four young women set off on a camping holiday in the Canadian Rockies . After a few fun days and conversations about love affairs and unwanted pregnancies, the girls meet two psychopathic hunters who have an unorthodox way of spending their free time. But the women turn out to be not as easy prey as hoped.
background
The film is the first full-length feature film from director Matthias Olof Eich . After his originally planned project "Deep Hollow" was put on hold overnight due to financial problems, he wrote a new script within four weeks, changed all locations and cast new actors. The entire concept was based on delivering a complete feature film with the available possibilities. At the same time, English was set as the film language in order to help with further marketing. Matthias Olof Eich has summarized his experiences during the shooting and the subsequent marketing in two articles that appeared on the German-speaking independent film community "Hackermovies".
Reviews
Filmempfoice.com writes: “You should actually use the standard sentence:“ OK for a German production ”, but you shouldn't get rid of it. »Break« can certainly compete with international projects, but it does not play in the high league in either the horror or thriller genre. The story remains too flat for that, you get to see the »manhunters« much too early and obviously, so that the present film remains attractive - but does not necessarily have to be viewed. "
Jons Marek Schiemann from movieworlds.com writes: "With" Break "there is now a pretty decent genre film from Germany, which follows the tradition of films like" Wrong Turn "," Timber Falls "and, even more," Muttertag " stands. He does not reinvent the genre of survival horror, but it is quite exciting and has some very bloody effects. The main features of the story are well known: some friends (in this case four young women) travel to the wilderness for a short vacation and are hunted, tortured and killed by backwoodsmen. With such a restricted basic plot, only a few variables can still have an original effect and directing ideas are what make it special. A few weaknesses in terms of content prevent the first aspect ... But if you keep in mind that “Break” is a debut film, that's quite remarkable. But as a debutant, the director Matthias Olof Eich did not dare to do much and is very close to his predecessors and role models. Those who are not very familiar with the subgenre will have some pleasure in the film. Anyone who has already watched several films of this type will discover nothing new. Although the first half is very lengthy, you will not have wasted your time ... A decent genre film of survival horror from Germany, which does not reinvent the genre, but is able to entertain very solidly. "
