The Breitspitz  ( 1804  m above sea level ) is a secondary peak of the Hochgründeck in the Fritztal Mountains ( Salzburg Slate Alps ) in the state of Salzburg .

The Breitspitz rises above the Fritztal and forms the northward ridge of the Hochgründeck massif, which extends between Iglsbach and Raidlgraben . At the Breitspitz it bends to the east, leads to the Schroffkoppen  ( 1562  m above sea level ) and then breaks off steeply to the Iglsbach. At the north foot are the villages of Alpfahrt and Fritzerberg in the communities of Bischofshofen and Hüttau , respectively , and in the Pöham and Hüttau valley , at the east foot the Hüttau village of Iglsbach . The summit forms the municipality border Bischofshofen-Hüttau.

Like the only slightly higher Hochgründeck summit ( 1827  m above sea level ) - the Hochgründeck massif is one of the highest wooded mountains in Central Europe - the Breitspitz is tree-lined up to the top, here a dry clearing opens up on the last meters of altitude, and offers a far-reaching panoramic view the Kalkhochalpen with Hochkönig , Tennengebirge and Dachstein in the north and the main Alpine ridge with the Niederen and Hohen Tauern in the south.

The mountain belongs to the Grauwackenzone , medium to old Paleozoic slate rocks , 300–500 million years old, which are inserted here as a narrow strip between the Central and Limestone Alps.

The summit can be easily reached from the Heinrich-Kiener-Haus on the Hochgründeck summit via the Hofersattel  ( 1635  m above sea level ). The valley path from Bischofshofen and Kreuzberg also leads up to the latter , the Friedensweg , as well as the path from Hüttau via Igelsbach - Klammalm and the southern flank of the Breitspitz (meditation path ) , both as part of the St. Rupert pilgrim path (route 3, stages 16 / 17). Several climbs to the Sattel and Klammalm are also marked from Pöham-Alpfahrt. From the Hofersattel it is only a comparatively short detour to the Breitspitz, from there various trails continue without difficulty but unmarked. It is seldom committed.
The slopes of the mountain are criss-crossed by numerous forest roads and are ideal for mountain biking.
