Postage stamp issues for Thuringia (SBZ)

After the end of the Second World War , East Germany (the area that would later become the German Democratic Republic ) came under Soviet administration . In five regions of the Soviet occupation zone , including Thuringia , new postage stamps were issued from June 1945.

In Thuringia a total of eight definitive stamps and nine special postage stamps were issued between October 1945 and February 1946 . Five special stamps were only issued as a stamp block, the three other stamp blocks reproduce stamps that were also issued as individual stamps (seven definitive stamps, four special stamps).
