history

It was set up in Turin in 1923 as the 1st Alpini Group, which from 1926 was called the 1st Alpini Brigade and consisted of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Alpini Regiments, as well as the 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment. In 1935, the 1st Alpini Division Taurinense emerged from the brigade , which was now subordinate to the 3rd and 4th Alpini Regiments, as well as the 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment (the 1st and 2nd Regiment went to the new 4th Alpini Division Cuneense in Cuneo). During the Second World War, the division operated in Yugoslavia, among other places . After the armistice in September 1943, almost all of their soldiers joined the Italian Garibaldi partisan division .

In 1949 the Taurinense was re-established as a brigade with the 4th Alpini Regiment and the 1st Mountain Artillery Regiment in Turin. During the Cold War , the brigade in the Western Alps was a reserve unit that could be deployed in the Eastern Alps or on the flanks of NATO if necessary . For this purpose, the Taurinense provided the " Allied Mobile Force-Land " (AMF-L), which has since been dissolved, the Alpini Battalion Susa (today 3rd Alpini Regiment), which also practiced in Norway and Turkey .

With the army reform of 1975, the regimental level was abolished in the Italian army. Therefore, from 1976 to 1990 the brigade consisted of the Alpini battalions Saluzzo and Susa , the mountain artillery battalions Pinerolo and Aosta , the logistics battalion Taurinense and some disposition and supply units. There was also the Mondovi Alpini training battalion .

After 1991 the brigade was one of the first to be professionalized in Italy and took part in a number of missions abroad, including in Mozambique , the former Yugoslavia and several times in Afghanistan . The two Alpini battalions Saluzzo and Susa are again using the designation regiment. From the Alpini Brigade Julia , the Taurinense took over the 9th Alpini Regiment, which traditionally consists of personnel from the central Italian region of Abruzzo and is also stationed there. In addition, a cavalry regiment (tank reconnaissance battalion) was added to the units in Piedmont .

In 2013, the close cooperation with the French 27e brigade d'infanterie de montagne was institutionalized by a joint staff that could be activated (Non-Standing Bi-National Brigade Command - NSBNBC) .
