Britta Wauer
Britta Wauer (born December 13, 1974 in East Berlin ) is a German journalist , director , film producer and screenwriter .
Life
Born in Berlin, Britta Wauer completed an apprenticeship at the Berlin School of Journalism after graduating from high school . From 1995 to 1996 she worked in the editorial department of Spiegel TV Reportage in Hamburg , where she realized the first documentaries as a co-author. From 1997 she studied directing at the German Film and Television Academy (dffb), with a successful graduation in 2004. During her studies, Wauer worked as an assistant director for Jutta Brückner and Helmut Dietl , among others . For her undergraduate film Heldentod - The Tunnel and the Lie (2001) she received several awards, including theGerman television award . In March 2005 she received the Grimme Prize in the “Information & Culture” category for her graduation film, Die Rapoports - Our Three Lives , made in collaboration with Sissi Hüetlin .
At the beginning of 2005, Wauer founded the production company Britzka Film with a focus on documentary film . The first self-produced film - Berlin corner Volksbühne - was shown for the first time on ARTE in October 2008 . In 2008 she adapted Knut Elstermann's autobiography Gerdas Schweigen as a screenwriter and director for the cinema and won several awards at festivals. Her next project examined the past and present of the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee . Under the title Im Himmel, unter der Erde , the documentary was shown in the Panorama of the Berlinale 2011 and won the audience award there.
