Literary work

Jaschke's preferred genre is satire . Most of his texts are carried by sarcasm , which, at first glance malicious, is intended to give the viewer a differentiated perspective on a wide variety of topics. His "black humor" is reflected in an unpretentious language, operates disrespectfully with human vanities and abysses, and acts within societal inadequacies, but does not necessarily pursue socially critical intentions. In Jaschke's writing, his tendency towards self- irony is always visible.

His 2003 debut novel In Truth Is It Worthy and Right (Edition Innsalz) is a parody of the Austrian media world, but also targets the Austrians themselves. In biting, often sloppy language, Jaschke describes the relationship between an all-powerful media tsar (referred to in the book as “the editor”) and his dog, which is loved above all. The “editor” can implicitly find his real equivalent in Hans Dichand , the editor of the Kronen Zeitung , one of the highest-circulation papers in the Austrian media landscape. In 2004 Jaschke published Fear not (Edition Innsalz), a collection of Christmas short stories. This book, designed as a literary Advent calendar, contains 24 stories about Christmas. The work does not see itself as a flat criticism of pre-Christmas consumption and forced reflection, but rather depicts bizarre incidents in Jaschke's ironic, malicious style against a Christmas background. In autumn 2007, Adventträume (Edition Garamond) was a sequel with new stories on this topic. Both books were illustrated by his wife, the Viennese artist Tamara Starl-Latour . In 2010 Jaschke published the collection of short stories Catastrophes ( Arovell Verlag ), in 2014 the prose volume Im Arsch daheim (Arovell Verlag).
