Brusy [ 'brusɨ ] ( German : Bruß ) is a town in the powiat Chojnicki of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland . The place is the seat of the urban-and-rural municipality Brusy .

The city is located in Kashubia , in the Tuchel Heide Bory Tucholskie .

history

In 1351 the place was laid out as Bruszk according to Kulm law . In 1856 a paved road was laid, which encouraged the settling crafts. In 1902 it was connected to the rail network. After the end of the First World War , the city became part of the re-established Poland . Forestry in particular was an important industry for the city at that time. With the attack on Poland in 1939, the annexed area of ​​the Polish Corridor, in violation of international law , became part of the German Reich

During the Second World War , the city was occupied by the Wehrmacht . On August 24, 1944, a satellite camp of the Stutthof concentration camp with around 500 prisoners was set up here, which existed until February / March 1945.

After the invasion of the Red Army , the city became part of Poland. With an administrative reform, the place came in 1975 to the Bydgoszcz Voivodeship . In January 1988 Brusy was granted town charter. Another reform of the administrative structure dissolved the Bydgoszcz Voivodeship and Brusy became part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in 1999.

Surname

The name of the place means is derived from the word "brus", which means millstone .

coat of arms

On September 9, 1999, the municipality's coat of arms was changed. As before, the upper half shows half a red griffin on a white background holding a B. However, the crown was taken from the griffin. The lower part of the coat of arms is blue as before and shows three spruce trees . These were green until 1999, since then they have been gold in color.

Voivodeship Road 235 ( droga wojewódzka 235 ) runs through the city . In the south this ends in Chojnice , in the north it joins the national road 20 ( droga krajowa 20 ) about six kilometers west of Kościerzyna .
