Brzezówka ( German Brzezuwka ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality Hażlach in the powiat Cieszyński of the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland .

Brzezówka is located in the Ostrava Basin ( Kotlina Ostrawska ), about 30 km west of Bielsko-Biała and 60 km south of Katowice in the powiat (district) Cieszyn.

The village has an area of ​​460.63 hectares .

Neighboring towns are Kończyce Wielkie in the northeast, Hażlach in the southeast, Pogwizdów in the west, Kaczyce in the northwest.

history

The village is located in the Olsa area (also Teschener Silesia , Polish Śląsk Cieszyński ).

The place was first mentioned in 1426 as von Brzesowicz . The name was then Brzozowice / Brzezowice , the current name Brzezówka was first mentioned in 1523. The name comes from birch , in Polish brzoza .

Politically, the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen , the feudal lordship of the Kingdom of Bohemia , and from 1526 it belonged to the Habsburg Monarchy .

After the abolition of patrimonial it was from 1850 a municipality in Austrian Silesia , Teschen district and Teschen judicial district. In the years 1880–1910 the population rose from 300 in 1880 to 351 in 1910, and the majority were Polish-speaking (between 99.7% and 100%). In 1910, 72.1% were Roman Catholic and 27.9% were Protestant.

In 1920, after the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the Polish-Czechoslovak border war , Brzezówka became part of Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Brzezówka was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
