Bubach is the smallest district of St. Wendel in Saarland . Until the end of 1973 Bubach was an independent municipality. The name Bubach im Ostertal is also used to distinguish it from Bubach-Calmesweiler .

Bubach is located in the St. Wendel district , in northern Saarland, in a side valley of the Oster .

history

The village was first mentioned as Bobbach in 1449. The place name is derived from the Middle High German buoche = beech.

The place belonged partly to the Wörschweiler monastery , then to the Remigiusberg monastery and came into the possession of the Blick von Lichtenberg family in the 15th century. In the 16th century, the Counts of Saarbrücken claimed the village. After the von Lichtenberg family died out in the 17th century, the von Günderode lords became the new owners.

Since 1816 the place was part of the Bavarian Rhine District . In 1947, after a referendum , Bubach and the other Ostertal communities Hoof , Marth , Saal , Niederkirchen and Osterbrücken left the Bavarian-Palatinate district of Kusel and moved to the district of St. Wendel in the then autonomous Saarland . The main concern of the Ostertal population was job security for most of the people who work in Saarland. The fears seemed justified, since in 1929 people from the Palatinate were the first to be affected by layoffs in the Saar area, which was then administered by French.

On January 1, 1974, in the course of the regional and administrative reform in Saarland, it was incorporated into the district town of St. Wendel . Bubach has been part of the Niederkirchen municipality since 1994 .
