Buddy & the Huddle is an Americana band from Nuremberg and the Upper Palatinate , which releases its albums under the Glitterhouse Records label and its own Ciclismo Records .

history

The band emerged mainly from the formation of the Bløde Dog Blues Band , in which Roland Kopp, Michael Ströll, Armin Rothgang and Robert George played. Karola Riebe was no longer part of Buddy & the Huddle.

The first release was in 1996 "Music for a Still Undone Movie Maybe Called Suttree" . The album is based on the novel "Suttree" (German title: "Verlorene" , Rowohlt Verlag ) by Cormac McCarthy . Inspired by the visual language and the detailed descriptions of the characters in the novel, the two heads of the band, Roland Kopp and Michael Ströll , set about producing the audio film "Music for a still undone movie maybe called Suttree" along with a live performance. The musical spectrum of the band ranges from alternative country , post rock , bar jazz and sound games to swamp blues and minimal music . A mixture that is reminiscent of Tindersticks , Lambchop , Ry Cooder or Tom Waits .

For the instrumentation, wooden clubs and iron plates are used on an equal footing with classical jazz instruments such as the double bass or vibraphone , supplemented by the use of a monochord , various sound objects of Hannes Arnold , Dobros , the banjo , the mandolin , various wind instruments , the cello and various percussion .

In 1999 Buddy & the Huddle was awarded the "Star of the Year" by the Nürnberger Abendzeitung. The band members Kopp and Ströll received a cultural promotion award from the city of Nuremberg in the same year . In 2000 they published a musical biography (as Buddy & the Huddle themselves call it) by Thomas Alva Edison , and in 2003 they again set a novel to music, this time "The Lord of the Barnyard" (German title "Monument for John Kaltenbrunner" , published in Suhrkamp) Verlag) by Tristan Egolf . In 2010 a new setting for a novel, this time "Farrago" (German title "The random life of Homer Idlewild" , Aufbau Verlag) by Yann Apperry .

Others

Kopp's son Leon is the drummer in the Brit pop band the TurningOns , who recorded their debut album in the Blue Beat studio of Michael Ströll and Kopp in 2012.
