The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sicherheit im Sport (ASiS) (founded in 1992, dissolved in July 2015) was an association of institutions and people that worked on developing strategies and measures for the prevention of accidents and injuries in sport. In the ASiS, current findings on sports accident research were discussed and implemented in practical preventive measures. Another task was to sensitize the public, politicians and experts as well as those responsible in sport to the subject of safety and accident prevention. The majority of the member organizations and people involved have been continuing the activities since May 2015 within the framework of the Safety in Sport Foundation founded on May 19, 2015.

history

The ASiS was founded in 1992 under the chairmanship of Horst de Marées (former director of the Federal Institute for Sport Science (BISp) ). The founding members were ARAG Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG - Sports Insurance , the Federal Institute for Sports Science (BISp) , the Federal Working Group of Public Accident Insurance Institutions (BAGUV) as the predecessor of the German Statutory Accident Insurance (DGUV) , the Westphalia-Lippe Community Accident Insurance Association as the predecessor institution of the North Rhine -Westphalia Accident Insurance. Westphalia (UK-NRW), the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) , TÜV Product Service, Bavaria ( TÜV Süd ) and the administrative trade association (VBG) . The ASiS was dissolved in July 2015 following a resolution by the members.

The ASiS published a total of 14 brochures on the prevention of sports injuries . These were created, among other things, as a result of database analyzes on sports accidents that were provided by members of the ASiS. The ASiS information materials on sports accident prevention take into account the current state of scientific and practical sports knowledge from the literature as well as the results of expert discussions.

The ASiS was internationally networked. Together with the Advice Center for Accident Prevention ( Switzerland ) and the Board of Trustees for Road Safety ( Austria ), the ASiS organized five three-country congresses “Safety in Sport” from 2000 to 2009 and published the corresponding conference volumes . This series of congresses has been continued as the DA-CH symposium "Safety in Sport" since 2010, at which the participating institutions exchange views on current topics in sports accident research and prevention at a technical level.

The knowledge transfer from science to sports practice served by the ASIS since 2001 in cooperation with different international sports federations and other (sports) associations organized trainer workshops on sports injury prevention, on which coach and trainer of a team of sports doctors , physiotherapists , sports scientists and top coaches in theory and were trained in practical sports.

The members of ASiS have met twice a year since 1992 and discussed current developments in the field of sports accident prevention.
