National best basketball games

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Until 2011, Bundesbestenspiele basketball took place for basketball players living in Germany who have reached the age of forty-fifth , separated by age group , as two-day weekend tournaments, usually once a year, usually in April and May. Since 2012 there have been official German championships in the age groups over 45, over 50 and over 55.

From the age group over 60, the previous regulation applies, but under the name "Bundesturnier". The tournaments are a national competition for trained leisure basketball players , which is organized outside of the structured and orderly regular game operation in the area of the German Basketball Federation (DBB) or its regional associations and their districts. According to the statutes, the national basketball tournaments are an offer of grassroots and recreational sports . The participants or the participating teams and their clubs organize and host the tournament events on their own responsibility and responsibility derived from this. The trophies for the winning teams of the tournaments are named after deceased or living personalities of the German Basketball Federation. The first tournament competition of the Bundesbestenspiele basketball was held in 1980. In connection with the national tournaments, a mixed tournament for the Dr. Ernst Bauer Cup and organized a separate annual meeting for basketball players older than seventy.

Maxi basketball

Basketball is played by players of all ages. From beginners and experienced league players. Maxi basketball is the term used to describe the basketball game played by adult basketball players who, due to their age, no longer take part in their associations' regular games. The term maxi basketball has established itself internationally since the early 1990s . Maxi basketball players are recreational or health athletes and not league players in regular game operations.

Maxi basketball combines the lifelong game of basketball in the sporting leisure competition with the experience of camaraderie and understanding between amateur athletes, regardless of age , gender , origin , religion or status . Regular social contact with one another is important to many maxi basketball players. Always with respect for the motivation behind James Naismith in 1891 to develop the game under high hanging baskets.

In the area of DBB, there are two long established maxi basketball competitions: the German Championships ages UE35 and Ü40 and the age group tournaments of the Federal Best Games basketball with the lower age limit fünfundvierzigstes age - both competitions separately for women and men. The national best basketball games are assigned to the oldies division at DBB . The German Basketball Federation does not appoint or send national or national teams for oldies of all ages.

Responsibility and involvement of the DBB

The German Basketball Federation has no authority or responsibility for the operational implementation of the national best basketball games or for the management of the individual tournaments of this competition. You will receive appropriate positive and interested support from him or the DBB Presidium. On its website, the DBB provides information under "Oldies" about the planning of the planned top game tournaments and enables the organizers to report on the tournaments played.

Leisure sports in accordance with the statutes

According to its statutes, the DBB is obliged to promote popular and recreational sports. In addition to the deeply structured regular game operation in the leagues (the women's and men's national leagues have their own league management), it also offers streetball and beach basketball tournaments as well as national best basketball games for older players , also in cooperation with its regional associations . Since strength , speed , endurance , coordination and mobility decrease with increasing age and also changes in sensory perception , which can also affect athletic processes during play, increasing age groups were formed. For each age group tournament, a single performance class is offered in which players from all training and performance classes play together. In 2007 the age class system of the national best games was adapted to the internationally valid standards and from the age of forty-five years it was changed over to five age groups per age group.

Objective of the national best games

One of the goals of the DBB is to promote the lifelong basketball game in the sporting leisure competition, camaraderie and understanding between the recreational athletes, regardless of age, gender, origin, religion or status through the organization of national best games as well as the contact to the maxi basketball players in Germany and to consolidate its protagonists again and again. The DBB is also based on the Sports for All concept of the Olympic movement .

Announcement and game rules

There is no announcement by the DBB for the national best basketball games and the individual tournaments of the cup competition. The DBB has not adopted any special rules for the national best basketball games. A separate title for the winners of the tournaments of the Bundesbestenspiele basketball was not determined by the DBB.

Differentiation from the German championship

The Bundesbestenspiele basketball is a team competition for two age groups for adult women and five age groups for adult men. The winners of the national best games are class champions or age class champions. Your tournament victory stands next to the various, also tiered youth championships advertised by the DBB. National best games and youth championships of the DBB are clearly separated from the championships for women and men of the two highest competition classes of German basketball players. In the sports of the Olympic movement, the respective national titles, in Germany German champions , in each discipline only to a single team or a single person for victory in the highest national competition, women and men are generally honored separately. Only the competition to determine a German champion , determined by sports associations for adults organized in the German Olympic Sports Confederation , can be designated as a German championship . The two German champions of the German basketball players are determined in the competition of the highest national leagues for women and men. For this purpose, rights of use to the titles were temporarily or revocably granted to the league companies by the DBB.

Communication and marketing

The DBB does not communicate the sum of the special characteristics of the Bundesbestenspiele basketball. There is no corporate identity concept. The special identity of the tournaments is not conveyed and therefore cannot be perceived externally. The Bundesbestenspiele basketball and the tournaments are not positioned or not exactly positioned by the DBB. A visual appearance of the national best basketball games is also not presented. Basic elements of an unmistakable, concise corporate design , such as color scheme, fonts, symbols, logo , online presence on the web, etc. are not available and cannot be communicated as a common appearance, for example to the media.

The potential of participating in tournaments or the presence of veterans of German basketball, former national players and former participants in a championship final of the DBB or DBV regular game operation and / or DBB cup final is not used. The advertising and magnet factors of these outstanding players from the various decades of German basketball, whose successes could be reported in the form of legends , are totally ignored. The Bundesbestenspiele basketball does not have a sufficiently strong image of its own . The designation "German Championships" was introduced by the local organizers for the first time for six tournaments of the national best games for the tournament year 2011, mainly to enable the participating clubs to submit aid applications to cities and municipalities for reimbursement of expenses. The fact that teams and their players who achieve a placement in the context of German championships , places one to three, can be recognized in the annual honors of the cities and municipalities was also important for the rededication . This designation "German Championship" for the national best games tournaments is not justified by the statutes or announcement of the DBB.

Organization of the age group tournaments

In the game operations of the German Basketball Federation, a basic distinction is made between: a) women's and men's teams (adult teams or senior citizens) and b) girls and boys' teams (youth teams).

The national best games of basketball players in Germany bring teams and their recreational players together in precisely defined and strictly separated age groups in order to enable the performance of the participants to be compared in the fair competition of each game. The age groups each comprise five years or age groups. There are no separate performance classes in any age group that would separate the players or their teams according to their performance or previous league affiliation, from the district class to the Bundesliga.

Since 2007, basketball players in Germany have known the following age groups for the national best basketball games: a) Men over 45 H, over 50 H, over 55 H, over 60 H and over 65 H and b) women over 45 D and over 50 D.

For the tournament year 2007, the structure of the age grouping that was valid up to then was changed. The age group over 48 H was waived. The age groups over 45 H and over 50 H were newly introduced.

Participation and participants

Registered and approved teams from German basketball clubs that can be assigned to a DBB regional association can participate in the Federal Best Basketball Games. Syndicates from two or more basketball clubs are also entitled to participate if the given rules are observed. All players on a participating team must meet the specified criteria for participation for the tournament they have chosen, such as gender and age. The tournaments of the Bundesbestenspiele basketball are registration tournaments. Each participating team has to pay a fee when registering with the local organizing association. Proof of gender and age can be provided by a valid DBB participant ID (player pass) or, from age groups over 45 D, over 50 D and over 60 H, with a valid identification document. To participate in the tournaments of the national best basketball games, membership of a basketball club does not have to be proven, nor does membership in the basketball club of the participating team or any other sports club. When registering, it is subordinated to an association. The membership of a player in a tournament team is determined by the registration. Participation in more than one age group tournament is possible. In the age groups over 50 D, over 60 H and over 65 H, no DBB participant ID is required for identification. Participants who do not present a DBB participant pass must submit a disclaimer. A player can be registered by teams from different basketball clubs, each for a different age group.

Eligibility to participate and use

Players in a certain age group are eligible to play if their individual age is the same as the lowest age group of the respective age group or if it is greater. The deadline is the first of January of the respective tournament year. Every participant in the national best games can basically play in different age groups. The principle that 'old plays with young' applies. As long as a player has not yet reached the lower age limit of the respective age group, he or she is not eligible to play in the age group.

For example, a fifty-nine year old over 55 H age group cannot play in the over 60 H age group or a higher class. However, he can participate in the national best games in a team of his club in the age group over 45 H and / or the age group over 50 H. He always needs his valid DBB participant ID, issued for his team's club.

Since the tournaments of the age groups are not played together on a single weekend, it is possible for suitably old players to take part in several tournaments. Players in the age groups of over 45 D and over 50 D and players in the age groups over 60 H and over 65 H can take part in the national best basketball games with teams from various basketball clubs. This is possible because in these age groups no valid DBB participation card issued for the club of his team has to be presented. Identification takes place with the help of an identification document.

A sixty-six-year-old player, for example, plays in the age group of over 65 H for a team from Club X, in the age group over 60 H for club Y and in the age group over 55 H with his valid DBB participant ID for his home club A.

Fundamental provisions that regulate the eligibility to play or the change of players in regular game operations do not apply in the age groups over 45 D, over 50 D, over 60 H and over 65 H.

If no participation cards are issued for players by DBB regional associations, the host decides on suitable verification procedures with the help of available alternative association documents.

Management of the age group tournaments

The participating teams form a closed group of participants for each age group, which largely organize and manage themselves in the sense of an autonomous group . However, the organizers of the age group competitions attach great importance to the coordination between the groups in the age group.

Announcement by the organizer

The announcement of the Bundesbestenspiele basketball for the planned tournaments is carried out by the respective basketball club appointed as the organizer. He asks the teams or basketball clubs interested in participating to register and instruct the entry fee.

Access, number of participants and qualifications

Interest in one of the tournaments of the national best basketball game differs according to age group. Often, however, the maximum number of participating teams is not reached. If there are no vacancies in the field of participants, it can be difficult for interested, new teams to be admitted to one of the tournaments, as only two vacancies are played out in the qualification . A maximum of sixteen teams are desired or permitted per tournament. If a previous year's tournament was played with more than fourteen teams and the registration of one or more teams for the next tournament is received, then the teams placed in places fifteen and sixteen can only take part in the next tournament if they succeed in joining one beforehand separate central qualification tournament, in competition with the newly registered teams.

Orientation and duration

A separate tournament will be held for each age group, separately for the women's and men's teams. The organizer and promoter is usually the winner of the national best games in the previous year. The organizer of the age group tournament also ensures an appropriate social framework for the tournament and supports the participants in the selection of hotels. The tournaments are played on two weekend days. The organizers can market the tournaments. Entry fees are due for the participating teams. All proceeds collected remain with the organizer.

Rules, Referees and Technical Commissioners

The game is played according to the "Official Basketball Rules" of the DBB, based on the currently valid FIBA game rules. Due to the special requirements of a weekend tournament for older leisure basketball players outside of regular game operations, they have been modified for a specific purpose (playing times, time outs, free throws, player changes, exclusion in the fourth foul, etc.). The tournaments and games are carried out to ensure compliance with applicable standards. Referees are usually experienced referees from the field of the German Basketball Federation, equipped with an appropriate license. The DBB does not send any technical inspectors to the tournaments of the national best basketball games. An arbitration tribunal may act at the tournaments.

Award ceremony

The national best basketball games determine the winning team for each age group in separate national best game tournaments for women and men. The winner is given a trophy for recognition and honor. The award ceremony is usually carried out by a DBB functionary or a representative of the German Basketball Federation.

Critical appraisal

The following deficiencies in the given regulations of the Federal Best Basketball Games are named:

  • no concept for a maxi basketball game operation in the DBB area
  • Use of the non-Duden and discriminatory term "oldies" for athletes who work in everyday working life, usually up to the age of sixty-third or sixty-fifth.
  • No announcement of the Bundesbestenspiele basketball by the DBB, with exact, unmistakable names of the tournaments (tournament name) and naming of the winning teams of the competition tournaments (tournament title)
  • Self-administration, following its own interests, of the teams and clubs permanently involved in the tournaments of the national best basketball games (lack of statutory basis), only two relegated teams per tournament year
  • Waiver of a sporting qualification for teams ranked one to rank fourteen of a competition tournament for the respective subsequent tournament of the national best basketball games (quasi-league game operation without proof of performance when reported)
  • Participation of players in tournaments of the Bundesbestenspiele basketball who do not prove their eligibility to play for the club of their team with their DBB participant ID and do not prove that they belong to the club (application of the principle of proof)
  • No requirements for a minimum number of players per team and an obligation to allow every capable player to actively participate in the game (analogous to the corresponding fair play concept of the mini basketball rules)
  • Missing information, for inadequately trained tournament participants, of given health risks (death of a player over 60 in 2006 at a FIMBA tournament in Hamburg)
