The Bundesgymnasium und Sportrealgymnasium in Saalfelden is a general education high school with three branches. The grammar school with a focus on languages (English, Italian, French, Spanish, Russian, Latin), the secondary school with a focus on sport and the 5-year ski school (divisions: alpine skiing, freestyle, jumping, cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and biathlon). The school offers a modern boarding school.
history
Opened in October 1956 as West-BEA in former officers' apartment blocks of the American occupation forces, the school and boarding school were directly assigned to the Ministry of Education until 1976 as a federal educational institute (BEA, Bundeserziehungsanstalt für Knaben Saalfelden ), until 2002 as a higher boarding school of the federal government . Since then, as a federal high school and sports school, HIB Saalfelden has been directly subordinate to the Salzburg education department.

The boarding school offers space for over 180 students.
Two sports halls (one with a climbing wall ), a hard court, a tennis court and a 400 m sports field with athletics facilities are available for training. In addition, the school offers several modern fitness and weight rooms, a changing room and a sauna. In winter, Saalfelden is a cross-country skiing center, ideal training locations for alpine athletes are in the immediate vicinity: Kaprun Kitzsteinhorn (glacier ski area), Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Leogang and Hinterreit .
