The castle Peckelsheim is a medieval castle in the castle 5-7 in Peckelsheim , Höxter district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Among other things, a three-storey residential tower from the 14th century with a coat of arms from 1535, a residential house and a barn have been preserved. The complex was entered on February 13, 1985 in the list of architectural monuments in Willebadessen .

history

The fortified courtyard "Pykulessun" was mentioned as early as the 10th century in documents from the Corvey monastery . In 1294 a castle was built, under the protection of which the town of Peckelsheim developed, and in 1318 received town charter.

Burgmannen in Peckelsheim and Borgholz were those of Niehausen and von Spiegel . From 1378 the castle was owned by the Spiegel zum Desenberg line . Since then, the branch of the family that once lived here has been called Spiegel von und zu Peckelsheim ; he still owns the neighboring manor Helmern . The Spiegel zu Peckelsheim held the office of Hereditary Marshal of the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn . The still existing residential tower was built under them in the 14th century .

Simon von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim (1477–1540) had a new house built next to the tower in 1510 and further changes and alterations carried out in 1535. There is a coat of arms from 1535 on the tower house. His daughter Goda von Spiegel zu Peckelsheim (1508–1593) married Johann von Spiegel (1488–1559) from the Desenberg line. Her son Raban von Spiegel zum Desenberg (1540–1603) married Ursula von Fürstenberg zu Waterlappe around 1577 .

In the 18th century the castle was abandoned and only the estate was continued as a farm. This was expanded in 1856 by a barn. The mansion from 1510 standing next to the tower was u. a. redesigned by classical arched windows. In 1906 the property belonged to Albert Legge and his wife Therese, née Lücking. However, the medieval residential tower is in a poor state of conservation today.
