The Brunsburg near Höxter-Godelheim was an important medieval castle , which was built on a mountain, the Brunsberg , protruding from the west into the Weser valley .
history
The Brunsburg was built at the end of the 12th century and primarily served to protect the Corvey Monastery, just six kilometers to the north . The abbot Heinrich von Homburg stayed at the castle several times. It was abandoned at the end of the 13th century. The area already used by a prehistoric hilltop settlement confirmed by excavation finds still shows extensive remains of the high and late medieval fortifications.
Others
The Brunsburg is made accessible by regional hiking trails. Because of the favorable thermal conditions , the mountain offers good conditions for paragliding , for which there is a suitable launch pad about 200 meters north of the castle.
