Sokolčí castle ruins

The castle ruin Sokolčí (German Falkenburg ) is the ruin of a hilltop castle in the municipality of Benešov nad Černou in Okres Český Krumlov in the South Bohemian region in the Czech Republic. It has been a protected cultural monument since 1958.

history

Fake documents place the founding of Sokolčí Castle in the 13th century, according to which King Přemysl Otakar II should have confirmed his follower Wok von Rosenberg as the owner of the castle. In fact, the castle was only built after 1358. The castle was possibly used to protect the merchants on a variant of the Linzer Steige along the Schwarzau valley . In 1387 Beneš von Velešín sold the Sokolčí castle and the place Benešov to Ulrich I von Rosenberg , who incorporated them into the Nové Hrady estate . In the Rosenberg directory of 1541, Sokolčí is already referred to as a ruin.
