Călineşti is a municipality in Argeş County in Great Wallachia in Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality is located in the valley of the Argeș ( Argisch ). On its left side, the eleven incorporated villages are about 1–12 kilometers from the community center. Călineşti is about three kilometers from Argeş, on the European route 81 and the Bucureşti – Piteşti – Craiova railway ; the district capital Piteşti is located about six kilometers northwest of Călineşti. The Romanian A1 motorway should - when it is ready - run about 6 kilometers (as the crow flies) south of Călinești.
history
The place Călineşti was first mentioned in 1388. However, the history of settlement in the region goes back further. In the area of the incorporated village of Râncăciov - on the Dealul Olarului ("Pottery Mountain") called by the locals - finds of dwellings have been made which point to the Bronze Age .
population
In 1838, 719 people were registered in the town of Călineşti. In the 2002 census, 10,527 inhabitants were counted in the area of the municipality. 9632 of them called themselves Romanians , 887 called Roma and five called themselves Magyars . In 2008, about 11,000 people lived in the area of the parish.
The main occupations of the population are agriculture, animal husbandry and beekeeping.
Attractions
- The wooden church Sf. Apostoli Petru şi Pavel , built in 1744 and rebuilt in 1988 in the Sfântul Calinic monastery , is a listed building.
- The wooden churches Sf. Apostol Toma and Sf. Voievozi ( called a Turcului by the locals ), built in 1758 and 1759 respectively, are under monument protection.
- The monastery of Râncăciov , with its church built in 1648 and renovated in 1848, is a listed building.
