C.Th. Sørensen
Søren Carl Theodor Marius Sørensen , known as C. Th. Sørensen (born July 24, 1893 in Altona , † September 12, 1979 in Brønshøj ) was a Danish landscape architect . He renewed garden art , drawing inspiration from modernism and at the same time, more than others , directing the attention of his field to social reality. His work includes more than 2,000 projects - from allotment gardens to public parks to residential areas .
biography
C. Th. Sørensen was the son of the saddler Jens Peter Sørensen and Pouline Christine Jensen. He was trained as a gardener from 1908 to 1916 and was a draftsman for Erik Erstad-Jørgensen from 1916 to 1922 .
Ideas World
In 1931 C. Th. Sørensen wrote the book Parkpolitik i sogn og købstad (Park Policy in Municipalities and Towns). After the publication, with the help of the Carlsberg Fund, the book was sent as a gift to all 1,400 Danish councilors. The book presents a number of ideas on planting tasks, leisure areas for children, playgrounds, parks and facilities, such as village and city cemeteries, pastorate gardens, school gardens, sports fields, planted streets and paths, allotment gardens , gardens in residential areas, public gardeners and public Tenders and nature conservation formulated. In this book, C.Th. Sørensen used the term and concept adventure playground .
Working groups
C. Th. Sørensen was a member of the Planning Committee for Copenhagen ( Udvalget til Planlægning af Københavns-Egnen ), which u. a. 1936 the book The Green Areas of Copenhagen. Suggested a system of recreational areas ( Københavnsegnens grønne Omraader. Forslag til et System af Omraader for Friluftsliv ) advocating the importance of securing larger green spaces as excursion areas for the population in the fast-growing suburbs around Copenhagen. This had a major impact on the revision of the Nature Conservation Act of 1937 and later on the creation of the finger plan . C. Th. Sørensen made suggestions for everything from modest house gardens to allotment gardens and was also involved in the renovation of manor gardens .

- 1945 the Eckersberg Medal, an annual award from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts
- 1955 the Order of Knights of Dannebrog (2nd class)
- 1959 Honorary member of the Swedish Landscape Architects' Association (Föreningen Svenska Trädgårdsarkitekter)
- 1963 the Order of Knights of Dannebrog (1st class)
- 1972 the Prins Eugen medals, Swedish award for special artistic activities
- 1974 honorary member of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts
- 1979 the Prize of the Fund for Trees and the Environment
- 1979 the Peter Joseph Lenné Prize
family
C. Th. Sørensen married Kirsten Elisabeth Johansen on August 17, 1917 in Odense (October 7, 1892 - February 2, 1978 there), daughter of the commercial gardener Rasmus J. and Karen Kirstine Larsen. The marriage was dissolved in 1932. He married for the second time on August 5, 1932 in Frederiksberg Asta Klenow (March 26, 1905 - July 3, 1991 there), daughter of the manufacturer William K. and Meta Wengler.
