Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos
The Companhia Brasileira de Trens Urbanos (CBTU) is a Brazilian rail company for suburban trains and was founded on February 22, 1984 by the Ministry of Transport. The company belonged to the group of the state-owned company of the Brazilian railway lines Rede Ferroviária Federal (RFFSA) and was founded with the aim of modernizing the urban passenger transport systems, building additional systems and improving the quality and productivity of the services on the lines, thereby increasing the standard of living in large cities to lift.
Due to the growing trend towards decentralization of these personal urban rail transport services, control was transferred from the RFFSA to the União in 1994 . Since then, the CBTU is no longer managed directly by the Brazilian Ministry of Transport, but by the city administrations of the cities and state governments. CBTU operates the suburban trains to the major cities of Recife , Belo Horizonte (metrô), Maceió , Natal , Salvador and João Pessoa . In addition, CBTU oversees repair projects in the cities of Fortaleza , Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo . In these cities, the metro and suburban rail systems are already privately owned.
