Carambolage was one of the first German women's rock bands. At the beginning of the 1980s she was considered a pioneer of so-called " lipstick feminism ".

Band history

The band was founded in 1979 in Fresenhagen in the vicinity of Ton Steine Scherben . Britta Neander was before, during and after carom for a while the percussionist of the “Schherd”. As a 14-year-old Trebeteenie from the Rauchhaus, Angie Olbrich came to the shards in Berlin in 1972 , where she had a stable relationship with bassist Kai Sichtermann , with whom she also has their daughter Lisa. Elfie-Esther Steitz-Praeker came to Fresenhagen as the sister of the second front man of the Shards, RPS Lanrue . Olbrich, Neander and Steitz sometimes taught themselves to make music, and sometimes they were taught by members of the Ton Steine Scherben . The three founders met in 1977, but did not begin to appear under the name Carambolage until October 1979. After good reviews of their first demo tapes produced by the “Zensor”, that's what Burkhardt Seiler , owner of the influential record store of the same name in Berlin, was called, and a successful appearance in the Kreuzberg scene bar SO36 , Carambolage went on tour for the first time FRG , led to Italy and Austria . In the summer of 1980 they recorded their first self-titled LP in the Fresenhagen studio of the David Volksmund Production . After another tour, on which they were supported by Janett Lemmen, because Angie Olbrich had just given birth to their daughter, they recorded their second LP in 1982 in Fresenhagen as well, called " Express Delivery-Exprès ". In 1983 the producer of Nena and former bass player of Spliff , Manne Praeker became aware of the quite successful combo and planned to bring it to a " major ". The recordings for a third album, which was to be released under the title “ Bon Voyage ”, took place in Praeker's Mad Mix Studio in Berlin. Inner tensions between the members, the love affair between Praeker and Steitz and, last but not least, the far too great artistic influence Praeker had on the new album, increasingly shattered the band. When " Bon Voyage " was finally finished in 1985 and rejected by CBS , Carambolage dissolved. The album was first released 34 years later in the summer of 2019 on the independent Fuego label.

Aftermath

After the split from Carambolage, Angie Olbrich became tour manager of acts such as Pete York Miller Anderson, Colin Hodgkinson, Zoot Money, Chris Farlowe , Jon Lord and Tony Ashton and since 2002 she had a new project with Kai Sichtermann under the name Angels Blue performed as a singer. Since 2005 she has been a member of the band "Scherben-Family", which is made up of former members of Ton Steine Scherben. Elfie-Esther Steitz-Praeker and Manne Praeker married, had sons Maurice and Maxime and moved to the Portuguese Algarve . Steitz-Praeker only appears occasionally as a musician and singer, most recently as a member of the Ton Steine Scherben on the 2014-2016 tour. Most influential was Britta Neander's further career. In the 1990s she played with Lassie Singers , whose lyrics and music were heavily influenced by carambolage . In 1998 she founded the band Britta with Christiane Rösinger and Julie Miess . Neander died in December 2004 after heart surgery in Berlin, leaving behind her daughter Ayana.
