The Rifugio Carducci (German also Carduccihütte ) is an alpine refuge of the CAI in the Italian Dolomites ( province of Belluno ) at an altitude of 2297  m . It is located in the rearmost section of the Val Giralba, encircled between the 3000m Zwölferkofel and Hochbrunner Schneid . The hut, which is usually managed from mid-June to early October, has 54 beds and a winter room with four beds.

history

The refuge was built in 1908 by the Cadorina Section of the CAI on the site of an old shepherd's hut. It is named in honor of the poet Giosuè Carducci , who stayed at the Cadore several times and recorded the beauty of the area in a poem. The hut, which was built close to the former border with Austria-Hungary , was out of sight of the Austro-Hungarian artillery during the First World War , but was nevertheless damaged during the war. It represented an important base for the Italian troops, for the front line running above the Rifugio on the Forcella Giralba. In the 1950s the building was renovated and expanded in 1962. Further alterations and extensions took place in 1978 and 2002. In the winter of 2010, the rifugio was partially badly damaged by an avalanche.
