Carl-Wilhelm Gerberding
Carl-Wilhelm Gerberding (born March 14, 1894 in Holzminden ; † May 2, 1984 in Vevey ( Canton of Vaud , Switzerland )) was a German businessman and entrepreneur.
Life
Carl-Wilhelm Gerberding was born in Holzminden in the Duchy of Braunschweig in 1894 . After the end of the First World War , at the age of 25, on October 7, 1919, he founded the company DRAGOCO & Co. to manufacture perfume oils for the soap and cosmetics industry. This first happened in the back building of the mother's office building in Holzmindener Bahnhofstrasse. An expansion followed in 1930 with the production of flavors and essences for the food and luxury food industry. In the spring of 1957 Gerberding withdrew to Switzerland for health reasons.
On the occasion of Gerberding's 70th birthday, DRAGOCO set up the Otto Wallach Fund at the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh), from which the award of the Otto Wallach plaque was financed with a cash prize . This prize, last awarded in 2002, honored achievements in the fields of essential oils , terpenes and polyterpenes. Gerberding had been the holder of the Braunschweig Rescue Medal since 1916 . In 1964 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class . He had been an honorary citizen of the city of Holzminden and the Swiss municipality of Port-Valais in the canton of Valais since 1964 . Carl-Wilhelm Gerberding died in May 1984 at the age of 90 in Vevey on Lake Geneva .
The DRAGOCO AG was among its industry with 29 subsidiaries and headquarters in the US and Singapore at the ten largest companies. In 2003 the merger with the Holzminden-based competitor Haarmann & Reimer took place to form Symrise AG .
