Carl Bertling
Carl Bertling , also Karl Bertling (born September 7, 1835 in Dahlinghausen , Kingdom of Hanover , † February 23, 1918 in Wachau , Kingdom of Saxony ), was a German history , portrait and genre painter and illustrator of the Düsseldorf School .
Life
From 1852 Bertling studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Under the direction of Wilhelm von Schadow he created the first known picture under the title Hagar and Ismael . Another teacher at the Düsseldorf Academy was the painter Eduard Bendemann . Between 1862 and 1864 he helped him with the execution of the monumental painting Cain and Abel (The Death of Abel) , which now hangs in the stairwell of the former Naumburg jury court . Bertling was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . The animal painter Christian Kröner was one of his friends . In 1879 Bertling moved to Dresden . In 1898 he lived there in the inner old town at Maxstrasse 5.
