Carl Haslinger (publisher)

Carl Haslinger (born June 11, 1816 in Vienna ; † December 26, 1868 there ) was an Austrian composer , pianist and music publisher .

Life

The son of the publisher Tobias Haslinger first attended four classes in the academic high school and then received musical training. He was instructed in piano by Carl Czerny and in composition by Ignaz von Seyfried . He made his first public appearance at the age of 18. This was followed by tours through the Danube Monarchy until Haslinger, after an illness in 1859, could only use his right hand to a limited extent.

After the death of his father in 1842, he took over the music publisher, initially together with his mother. In 1843 the shop was reopened on Kohlmarkt (today's address: Graben 19) and was famous for its numerous busts of composers. After the death of his mother Caroline, he was the sole owner from 1848 and was very successful. The composers he added to the publishing program included Johann Strauss , Josef Strauss , Eduard Strauss and Carl Michael Ziehrer . Most of the publisher's artist portraits were created in collaboration with Josef Kriehuber . Haslinger organized concerts both in his restaurant and in various halls in Vienna.

After his death, his widow Josephine and two authorized signatories continued to run the publishing house until it was sold to Robert Emil Lienau on December 9, 1875.

Haslinger was buried in the Matzleinsdorf cemetery .

Works

Haslinger left a few hundred compositions, including piano and chamber music; Songs, choirs, sacred music, dance music (waltzes, polkas etc.), marches and Viennese songs.
