Carlo Giersch

Karl Emil Martin Giersch (born May 22, 1937 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German entrepreneur and patron .

Career

Giersch was born as the third child of a master gardener from the Sachsenhausen district of Frankfurt . After completing secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk at the electrical wholesaler Spoerle. During this time he met Karin Lutz , a specialist butcher , whom he married in August 1963. An internship took him to the United States. In 1967 he and his boss founded the company Spoerle Electronic for trading in electrical components in Frankfurt am Main . In 1983 he took over the company completely and developed it into the largest distributor of electronic components in Central Europe with sales of more than DM 1.2 billion. In 2000 he withdrew from the operational business and sold his company.

When they retired, the childless couple developed extensive donation activities to promote science and art. In March 1990 the Carlo and Karin Giersch Foundation was established at the TU Darmstadt , in November 1994 the Giersch Foundation , which among other things acts as a sponsor for the Giersch Museum .
